Ekman Grab Set

The Ekman grab set is used for sampling of soft sediment, free from debris and plant growth. There is a 1.5 meter rod (04.34.01) available for the rod-operated use of the Ekman grab in shallow water.

The Ekman Grab set is equipped with a drop-weight system, so that sampling can be carried out at any depth. Two thin hinging flaps are open while the grab is lowered. The spring loaded flaps close when a drop-weight is dropped (cable operated) or a button is pressed (rod operated). Samples can, therefore, also be taken from very soft top layers. The pressure of the sample prevents much loss of material. Nevertheless, please note that small stones or stalks may prevent the grab from closing properly.
