Pocket Penetrometer

The pocket penetrometer is designed to measure the penetration resistance of top soil layers (up to 5 millimetres depth) and of samples, either in the field or in the laboratory. It has a measuring range of 0.5 MPa and provides an immediate reading of the encountered resistance.

When the device is pushed into the ground, the pin is pressed by resistance from the soil, compressing an internal spring. A slip-ring moves during this compression, indicating on the calibrated scale the maximum force encountered.

The instrument’s scale is calibrated so that you can read the penetration resistance directly at the highest encountered value.
