Monitoring Wells
Eijkelkamp monitoring well components for installing and maintaining groundwater monitoring boreholes — HDPE plain and filter pipe, bentonite seals, sand catchers, caps, protective casing and lockable well covers. Everything sized to work together, supplied direct from our UK operation.
Building the well: pipe and screen
A monitoring well is a string of pipe with a screened section positioned across the horizon you want to sample, and solid pipe above it to keep everything else out. The split between the two is the single most important decision in the installation.
- HDPE Filter Pipe with Screw Thread Connection — slotted screen section that admits groundwater across the monitored interval.
- HDPE Plain Pipe with Screw Thread Connection — solid riser from the top of the screen to ground level.
- Pre-Packed Filter Pipe — filter pack already fitted around the screen, which saves placing sand down the annulus and gives a more consistent result in awkward holes.
- Well Pipe Adaptor 32 to 20 — joins the two common diameters.
- Polypropylene Filter Gauze — additional filtration where fine material would otherwise pass the screen.
Sealing the annulus
An unsealed annulus is a short circuit from the surface to your screened interval, and it is the most common reason monitoring data turns out to describe the borehole rather than the groundwater.
- Bentonite Plugs — swell on contact with water to seal the annulus above the screen.
- Pipe with Bentonite Collar — carries the seal at a fixed position on the pipe, so the seal ends up where you intended it rather than where it settled.
- Sand Catcher — sits below the screen and collects fines, keeping them out of samples and away from a pump intake.
Capping and protecting the head
- Pointed Bottom Cap — Screwable — closes the base of the string and eases it into the hole.
- Top Cap — PE — supplied in sets of ten, because on a multi-well site you will need them.
- Natural PE Cap for Pipes — general purpose pipe cap.
- Protective Casing — shields the well head from damage.
- Monitoring Well Cover with Plastic Lid — lockable cover keeping out surface water, debris and interference.
- Liquid Tight Floor Cover — for well heads in trafficked areas that must be walked or driven over while remaining sealed.
Using the well once it is in
An installed well needs equipment to read and sample it. See Water Level Meters for dipping levels and detecting product on water, Water Sampling for submersible pumps to purge and sample, Tubing for sample lines, and Diver Accessories for suspending and retrieving level loggers safely.
Monitoring well FAQs
Ordering and support
All components listed here are genuine Eijkelkamp equipment supplied direct from our UK operation, sized and threaded to work together. If you tell us the depth, the horizon you need to monitor and what equipment will go down the well, we will put together the pipe schedule and the fittings list before you order.
